Gov. Katie Hobbs landed about 25 miles north of the rim near De Motte Campground and first toured the fire camp, where fire personnel were staged.

The Deer Fire was reported in the Pattee Creek/Deer Creek area on the Missoula Ranger District just before 9 p.m. on July 18.
Logan Canyon will be closed Monday and Tuesday nights while UDOT crews install drainage pipes and make road repairs.

A hiker died after falling 700 feet during a rock slide near Bell's Canyon while descending from Pfeifferhorn peak.
A 49-year-old hiker died in a 700-foot fall after being swept away by a rockslide, news outlets and Utah sheriff’s officials reported. The accident took place near Bell’s Canyon in the Little Cottonwood Canyon area at about 8:45 a.m. Saturday, July 19, the Salt Lake County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.
The victim, a 49-year-old man, was a solo hiker who was attempting to ascend “one of the more rugged peaks” in the area.
SALT LAKE CITY — A 49-year-old man who died after falling during a rock slide near Bell’s Canyon has been identified. The Salt Lake County Sheriff’s office said David Mull, 49, of Salt Lake City was hiking alone on Saturday morning when the rock slide occurred near Pfeifferhorn peak. Mull reportedly fell about 700 feet.
The wildfire that destroyed a historic lodge on the North Rim of the Grand Canyon this month was the latest blow to the struggling National Park Service after months of staffing and funding cuts under the Trump administration.
