Texas Rangers designated hitter Kyle Higashioka was almost put out twice by All-Star players from Detroit in a strange sequence.
The first seven innings had looked all too familiar for the Rangers. When they were given a great opportunity by the Tigers on a missed tag in the baselines and a throwing error in the third, giving them runners on the corners and one out, Josh Smith swung at a 3-0 pitch at the top of the zone for a pop-up. The inning died on a Seager strikeout.
The Detroit Tigers were limited to four hits and lost, 2-0, to the Texas Rangers on Friday, July 18, in the opener of a three-game series at Globe Life Field. The Rangers scored both runs off Kahnle, a right-handed reliever, in the eighth inning.
