Scottie Scheffler was a genius for nearly all of the week at Royal Portrush, and the result was a masterclass major performance in which the Texan essentially toyed with the field, ultimately winning by four shots while beating the next two best players in the world, No. 2 Rory McIlroy and No. 3 Xander Schauffele each by five shots.

He shot 78 in the opening round at Royal Portrush and looked well on the way to missing the cut in his second straight major. Instead, he flipped a switch and instead shot under par the next three days and earned himself a top-10 finish with a stellar closing 54 holes, finishing as the lowest LIV golfer on the leaderboard.

Adding to the many cool sights at Royal Portrush’s historic links this week was the British Open leaderboard showing Danish twins Rasmus and Nicolai Hojgaard in the top 10.

The 153rd Open Championship returns to Royal Portrush Golf Club in Northern Ireland from July 17-20, 2025, marking just the third time this prestigious links course has hosted golf’s oldest major championship.

When the Royal Portrush Golf Club was founded, it was called simply “the Country Club.” Starting in 1892, the club was renamed “the Royal Country Club,” and in 1895, it became the “Royal Portrush Country Club.” The changing names have to do with the British royal family, and the history of royal golf clubs.

The final major championship of the golf season will be the British Open on July 17-20 at Royal Portrush in Northern Ireland.

A grand total of $17 million is up for grabs in this year's British Open, along with the claret jug and a gold medal. The 13th highest purse of the tour so far will see the winner grab $3.1 million. Here is the payout for the top 10:
