RIO DE JANEIRO (AP) — Brazil’s former President Jair Bolsonaro will wear an electronic ankle monitor on orders from the Supreme Court, where he is on trial for allegedly masterminding a coup plot to remain in office despite his defeat in the 2022 election.

Trump hoped his tariffs on Brazil would help Bolsonaro avoid accountability for his illegal attempt to stay in power in 2023. But they could have the opposite effect.

Jair Bolsonaro criticised the Supreme Court's order for him to wear an electronic ankle monitor and not use social media, calling it humiliating. He aims to maintain his political presence while facing a trial for an alleged coup attempt and seeks to discuss tariffs with Trump.
