Keider Montero got the start for the Tigers, his first since July 7th (he did a bad spot of relief on July 12th). His previous start was a 6 inning, 1 run success against the Rays. The Rangers couldn’t do anything in the first, grounding out twice and ending with a Marcus Semien swinging strikeout on a nasty pitch.

Skubal, who beat the Rangers in Detroit in May, is 10-3 and is third in the majors in ERA (2.23), second in strikeouts per nine innings (11.38) and sixth in innings pitched (122). He was the AL starter for Tuesday’s All-Star Game.

Texas Rangers designated hitter Kyle Higashioka was almost put out twice by All-Star players from Detroit in a strange sequence.

The first seven innings had looked all too familiar for the Rangers. When they were given a great opportunity by the Tigers on a missed tag in the baselines and a throwing error in the third, giving them runners on the corners and one out, Josh Smith swung at a 3-0 pitch at the top of the zone for a pop-up. The inning died on a Seager strikeout.
