YPSILANTI TWP., MI — One person was taken to the hospital after a condominium caught fire in Ypsilanti Township. Crews were called around 4:17 p.m., Sunday, July 20, to the 1700 block of Cliffs Landing for a structure fire in a three-story condominium, Ypsilanti Township fire Lt. Pete White said.

​The wildfire that destroyed a historic lodge on the North Rim of the Grand Canyon this month was the latest blow to the struggling National Park Service after months of staffing and funding cuts under the Trump administration.

Orleans Complex Fire initially started 5:39 p.m. July 9 in Del Norte, Siskiyou County, California. Since its discovery 11 days ago, it has burned 15,749 acres, an increase of 956 acres since the last update. By Sunday morning, the fire crew effectively contained 2% of this fire. The cause is, however, still being investigated.

The fire, which broke out on July 13, exploded in size over recent days due to hot and dry conditions and gusty winds in parts of the state.

Mayor Karen Bass said Los Angeles is conducting a nationwide search for a permanent chief, and the interim chief is "open to apply."

In recent years, it's become much easier for retired first responders to convert their regular pensions into higher paying disability pensions.
